Winter bride? How to keep your skin sparkling when it's frosty outside
6 Oct 2016
Autumn is officially upon us, it’s definitely feeling cooler outside and I know a few of you will have been reaching for the thermostat by now. We all know that switching between the cold outdoors and toasty indoors can wreak havoc on your skin, so here I’ll share with you my top tips for keeping gorgeous, flawless skin during autumn & winter.
As soon as we turn on the heating indoors our skin will start to dry out. It’s more important than ever in autumn and winter to keep your skin hydrated with a good moisturiser. Most people generally need a thicker moisturiser in winter than in summer to keep a protective layer between your skin and the elements. Avoid petroleum based products which can dry out your skin and instead go for oil based creams such as Liz Earle Superskin Moisturiser with natural neroli are amazing & will keep you feeling soft and looking fresh all winter.
Don’t drop your water intake just because it’s cooler outside. As delicious as Pumpkin Spiced Lattes and Hot Chocolates are, they’re no replacement for good old fashioned water when it comes to looking after your skin. Use a hydration calculator to check you’re drinking enough, you could be surprised how much water your body actually needs.
Be careful of over-using acid peel skincare products in the cooler months which can leave your skin feeling delicate and stripped of the protective natural oils. Try switching your acid based products for a cleansing milk or using them less frequently. L'Occitane Shea Butter Cleaning Milk is rich and luxurious, yet gentle and effective.
Treat yourself with a warm bath and a homemade hydrating face mask. Naturally moisturising ingredients such as natural yoghurt, avocado, honey, olive oil and almond oil all make great ingredients that will give your skin a well-needed moisture boost. If you really want to treat yourself (or ask Santa to!) then Burt’s Bees Intense Moisture Mask is a must have.
